Park Church Believes:

"There are some doctrines on which two Christians may agree to disagree, even though they are in the same local church and part of the same leadership team. When teaching in any such area, it is made clear that these beliefs are not essential for salvation. We believe in being united as the family of God and in obeying His command to love one another while we seek to be doctrinally pure and culturally relevant."

ABOUT GOD

God is the Creator and Ruler of the universe. He has eternally existed in three personalities: the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. These three are co-equal and are one God.

Genesis 1:1,26,27, 3:22; Psalm 90:2; Matthew 28:19; 1 Peter 1:2; 2 Corinthians 13:14

ABOUT JESUS CHRIST

Jesus Christ is the Son of God. He is co-equal with the Father. Jesus was born of the virgin Mary, and He lived a sinless human life and offered Himself as the perfect sacrifice for the sins of all people by dying on a cross. He arose from the dead after three days to demonstrate His power over sin and death. He ascended to Heaven’s glory and will return again someday to earth to reign as King of Kings, and Lord of Lords.

Matthew 1:22, 23; Isaiah 9:6; John 1:1-5; 14:10-30; Hebrews 4:14,15; 1 Corinthians 15:3,4; Romans 1:3,4; Acts 1:9-11; 1 Timothy 6:14,15; Titus 2:13

ABOUT THE HOLY SPIRIT

The Holy Spirit is co-equal with the Father and the Son of God. He is present in the world to make men aware of their need for Jesus Christ. He also lives in every Christian from the moment of salvation. He provides the Christian with power for living, understanding of spiritual truth, and guidance in doing what is right. He gives every believer a spiritual gift when they are saved. As Christians, we seek to live under His control daily.

2 Corinthians 3:17; John 16:7-13, 14:16,17; Acts 1:8; 1 Corinthians 2:12, 3:16; Ephesians 1:13; Galatians 5:25; Ephesians 5:18

ABOUT THE BIBLE

The Bible is God’s Word to us. It was written by human authors, under the supernatural guidance of the Holy Spirit. It is the supreme source of truth for Christian beliefs and living. Because it is inspired by God, it is wholly true and inerrant in it's original form.

2 Timothy 3:16; 2 Peter 1:20,21; 2 Timothy 1:13; Psalm 119:105,160, 12:6; Proverbs 30:5

ABOUT HUMANS & HUMAN DEPRAVITY

People are made in the spiritual image of God, to be like Him in character. People are the supreme object of God’s creation. Although every person has tremendous potential for good, all of us are marred by an attitude of disobedience toward God called “sin”. This attitude separates people from God and causes many problems in life.

Genesis 1:27; Psalm 8:3-6; Isaiah 53:6a; Romans 3:23; Isaiah 59:1,2

We believe in the historical and literal fall of Adam as the first created man into sin; which we call original sin. We believe that due to Adam’s sin, all men receive the guilt and corruption of his sin and consequently are deemed sinners by heritage and choice. Humanity, in and of itself, is selfish and does not seek God, but rather seeks his or her own pleasure.

Genesis 3; Romans 5; 1 Corinthians 15:22

THE ATONEMENT

We believe that Christ died on the cross as a substitute for sinners. We believe that by the death of Jesus Christ, the penalty of sin (past, present and future) have been paid for all who believe in Him as Lord and Savior.

Hebrew 2:17; Romans 5:11; 2 Corinthians 5:18-21

JUSTIFICATION

We believe that a sinner is justified (declared not guilty) with God not by his/her own merits but by the unmerited grace of God. Even faith is the gift of God. We believe that sinners are saved by grace through faith and not by works.

Romans 4:25; Romans 5:16-18; Ephesians 2:8-10

ABOUT ETERNAL SECURITY

Because God gives us eternal life through Jesus Christ, the believer is secure in this salvation for eternity. Salvation is maintained by the grace and power of God, not by the self effort of the Christian. It is the grace and "keeping power" of God that gives this security.

John 10:29; II Timothy 1:12; Hebrews 7:25; 10:10-14; I Peter 1:3-5

ABOUT THE CHURCH

The Church is the living Body of Christ on earth. He is the head and the source of its life. We believe that all true believers need to be a part of the Church so they can grow in their faith, instruction, worship, and fellowship with other believers, and make a united impact upon society.

Ephesians 5:23; Romans 12:4-8; 1 Corinthians 12; Ephesians 1:22-23; 4:1-16; Colossians 1:15-20

ABOUT CHURCH LEADERSHIP

We subscribe to the biblical teaching of complementarianism, meaning that men and women are created equal but different. Men and women are partners together in every area of ministry. Both are created in the image of God, and in Christ inherit true righteousness, holiness, and relationship with God. All ministries in the church are open to all qualified men and women, with the singular exception of the office of Pastor/Elder. Women serve as deacons, teach, lead worship, serve communion, and are in paid full time ministry. For a more in depth summary please visit CBMW or read the Danvers Statement.

1 Timothy 3; Titus 1; 1 Corinthians 11:1-12

ABOUT THE SACRAMENTS

We believe there are two sacraments given by Christ to strengthen our faith as members of His Church. The first is Baptism, which is a sign and seal of God’s eternal covenant of grace for us and our children. Baptism symbolizes the washing away of our sins through the blood of Christ, and unites us in the death and resurrection of Jesus on our behalf.

The second is the sacrament of Communion. The broken bread symbolizes the broken body of Christ. The cup symbolizes the blood of Christ poured out at the cross for our salvation. Christ is spiritually present in the bread and juice, and is celebrated as a memorial reminding us of Christ's sacrifice on our behalf until he returns.

Genesis 17: 1-10; Deuteronomy 7:9; Matthew 19:13-15; 28:19; Acts 16:14-15; 30-33; Mark 14:22-25; 2 Corinthians 11:23-26; 1 Corinthians 1:16, Romans 6

FINAL THOUGHTS

When history has run the course laid out for it in God’s plan, Jesus Christ will return in power and glory to judge the world and to complete the total victory over sin, death and Satan. At that time those who believe in Jesus Christ as their Savior and Lord will enter heaven to be with him forever. Those who have not believed will be eternally separated from God.

Acts 1:6-11; Mark 13:24-27; Revelation 1:7; 1 Peter 4:5; Matthew 24:29-31; 25:31-46
